On democracy, the role of law and values: a LEGALcode meeting

As part of the LEGALcode project, together with Oleksandr Pavlichenko, executive director of the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union, we visited the Ukrainian Humanities Lyceum of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

We talked about what law really is, and why human rights are not just dry textbook definitions. We explored where one person’s rights end and another’s begin.

A separate topic of discussion was the abolition of the death penalty in Ukraine. We discussed why, at the time, this decision became a historic and important step toward European values.

We thank all participants for an engaging and profound discussion along the paths of law.
